1755: Wine flowed from the fountains when Stanislas inaugurated one of the most beautiful squares in the world, making Nancy the City of Golden Gates.
This square alone is worth the trip, and has been named Monument Préféré des Français 2021. It's part of an 18th-century ensemble of 3 squares, including the Place de la Carrière, the Place d'Alliance and the Arc de Triomphe, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
